What is AWS IoT SiteWise?


AWS IoT SiteWise is a managed industrial data service for collecting, organizing, storing, processing, and analyzing equipment data at scale. It combines industrial data ingestion, asset modeling, time-series storage, native anomaly detection, edge connectivity, and a generative AI assistant for operational analysis.


  1. Industrial data role: SiteWise Edge collects plant data from sources such as OPC UA and can use MQTT-enabled V3 gateways to route industrial data through MQTT topics. Asset models, component models, interfaces, and hierarchies then organize measurements and relationships around real equipment, production lines, and facilities. Partner integrations can extend connectivity to additional industrial protocols.
  2. AI capabilities: native anomaly detection trains managed machine-learning models on selected equipment properties to identify abnormal behavior and contributing sensors without requiring teams to build the models themselves. AWS IoT SiteWise Assistant combines operational data, asset models, manuals, and other knowledge-base content to summarize events, answer diagnostic questions, explore root causes, and provide guided recommendations through natural-language interactions.
  3. Implementation checks: buyers should assess gateway architecture, industrial protocols, asset-model design, data frequency and retention, bandwidth, AWS Region availability, and integration requirements. They should also distinguish edge collection from edge processing: the Data Collection Pack remains available, but the Data Processing Pack has been unavailable to new customers since November 7, 2025 and remains only for existing customers in maintenance mode. Native anomaly detection also has more limited Region availability than the core SiteWise service.
